Fonterra will supply milk vats and fresh water to the Pohara community, north of Nelson, until February following last week's rain deluge.
Two 6800 vats have been installed by Fonterra at the Pohara Marae and Pohara Hall. These will be kept full with treated water from the Co-operative's processing site at Takaka.
In addition, Fonterra will keep the Pohara Camping Ground tanks full through the summer months.
Fonterra Upper South Island Operations Manager Paul Green said Pohara is a gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park and the camping ground is expected to host at least 10,000 visitors during the summer.
"The visitors to the national park are important to Golden Bay. If the camping ground ran out of water it's likely it will have to close which will impact the entire community," Mr Green said.
Fonterra has committed to supply the camping ground until February and expects to keep filling the vats at the marae and hall for the next two weeks while the Tasman District Council repairs the community's water reticulation system.
